Student Objectives included in this unit: *Visually identify a sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rock. *Describe the process that forms an igneous rock, a metamorphic rock, and a sedimentary rock. *Describe six properties of minerals that can be tested. *Identify ten common minerals found in the rock cycle. *Describe two differences between detrital sedimentary rocks and chemical sedimentary rocks. *Demonstrate the rock cycle using model mineral sediments. *Define physical weathering, erosion, and chemical weathering. *Define element and compound; and give an example of each. *Compare and contrast physical weathering and chemical weathering. *Develop a class demonstration for the chemical or physical weathering of sedimentary rock.
